Vacuuming as an act of democracy, washing floors as a manifestation of societal hierarchy – cleaning one’s house has long stopped being a mere act of keeping objects, walls, and floors clean. Cleaning is so much more: it’s hard labour, ritual, societal guideline, and an organisation system for dual thinking. Within the framework of the special exhibition “Blitzblank! Vom Putzen – innen, außen, überall.” (“Spotless! Of cleaning – inside, outside, everywhere”) visitors can delve into this phenomenon until October 27 2024, and learn more about the history and the many different aspects of cleaning. Key points like economy, ecology, sustainability, and religion, which are all closely connected with the topic, will be at the focus of attention.
