A STRONG PARTNER FOR RUNNING SPORTS

since 2011 BMW has been supporting large marathon events in Germany as a strong partner of the sport. And every autumn GENERALI MÜNCHEN MARATHON is one of THE running highlights. Peter van Binsbergen,

head of marketing and sales for BMW Germany, says: “Every year GENERALI MÜNCHEN MARATHON is a huge highlight in BMW’s event calendar – start and finish are basically opposite the BMW headquarters. Aside from that the people of Munich have always been great hosts – on the route and around it. And we are looking forward to being able to play our small part and we hope that the atmosphere will be just as great as it was in the past years."

At GENERALI MÜNCHEN MARATHON the electrically powered BMW i3s (energy consumption: 14.3 kWh/100 km, combined CO2 emission: 0 g/km) will be used as the official lead car – just like at other large marathons in Germany that will once more be supported by BMW as their main sponsor and automobile partner. Among them are LEIPZIG MARATHON, Haspa Marathon Hamburg, BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, RheinEnergieMarathon Cologne and Mainova Frankfurt Marathon.

Of course, the BMW i3s is not the only representative of the BMW family at the marathon events. The unique plug-in-hybrid sports car BMW i8 (combined energy consumption: 2.1 l/100km, combined CO2 emission: 0 g/km) as well as the BMW C evolution electro scooter (energy consumption: 9.0 kWh/100 km, combined CO2 emission: 0 g/km) are also part of the vehicle fleet used along the route and in the organisation. This way BMW not only renews its long-standing commitment to running sports, but they also underline the fact that sustainability and high-quality driving pleasure don’t have to contradict each other.

“Running events are the perfect stage to present the BMW brand in an emotional context,” Binsbergen underlines. “It’s that commitment and passion for a goal that BMW identifies with, too, and as an innovative company it’s also what it needs on a daily basis in order to be able to do pioneering work. Our vehicles and engines share qualities with the marathon runners: they use the resources they have intelligently, responsibly, and gently – while still having plenty of dynamic when needed. The development of the sustainable carbon-made series of BMW i vehicles has set new standards in the automobile industry.”

With its commitment BMW Germany reaches an audience of millions – aside from the 175,000 active participants. BMW also is a partner of renowned international running events such as at the marathons in Tokyo and Shanghai, BMW Dallas Marathon, BMW Oslo Marathon as well as Vienna City Marathon.
