il Giro

Traditional recipes from nonna’s cucina

The small restaurant in Ledererstrasse at the heart of Munich may seem unassuming at the first glance, yet, upon entering we find ourselves surrounded by a special atmosphere: one step through the door and you’re welcome with typical Italian joie de vivre. The table cloths sport a red-and-white check pattern, Italian pop music and the warm hospitality of the hosts Jonas and Sandro, in particular, make a visit at il Giro a true Italian experience.

Upon entering the small Italian restaurant, one immediately notices the way the tables are set: cutlery, glasses, and napkins are arranged like little works of art; a playful surprise. The large high table at the centre of the room offers guests a space to get talking over a glass of exquisite wine while they enjoy the lively atmosphere and delicious antipasti with buffalo mozzarella, olives, and tender carpaccio.

The menu of the day offers a varied choice of fresh delicacies: whole gilthead, veal tagliata, or mushroom risotto with a hint of saffron. At il Giro the motto is: “Traditional Italian recipes, rediscovered and cooked with a twist.” Lovers of Mediterranean cuisine are bound to love the food: real classics, perfectly prepared and reduced to their natural taste. And should you find yourself unable to choose between the dishes on the small but exquisite menu we simply suggest ordering a choice of dishes to be placed at the centre of the table and shared – in line with Mediterranean tradition.

Jonas and Sandro run il Giro with a lot of passion and with their cheeky and charming ways they immediately transport their guests to Italy’s sunny south. The sheer amount of passion and dedication with which the two young restaurant owners like to treat italophiles makes it easy to forgive the occasional imperfection. Because, really, what is perfect in Italy? We are definitely looking forward to coming back!
